Homework is given to reinforce lessons taught that day, not as a punishment. It must be completed in notebook (unless a workbook page), in pen, and in cursive. Homework that is turned in incomplete or late will have points deducted. Homework is not usually given on the weekends, this should be family time. Christian Character Counts By Mrs. Vaccarella Sometimes students don’t always show their Christian Character. But this day wasn’t the case. It all started when I had a journal assignment on the board and the thought to ponder was, “Describe what you think bravery is, and have you or a friend ever acted bravely?” The definition that kept popping up was “overcoming a fear” and many students recounted terrifying feats of bravery when they rode the roller coaster they were deathly afraid of or when they handled a disgusting insect they feared the most. I was desperately listening for a different response. Then it came, a student shared with us a time when a friend confided in her that he was being bullied by another student. This student was at the end of his rope and didn’t know where to turn. He was so unhappy and hated to go to school. The
|
student being bullied attended another school, so this brave girl decided to use the internet for something positive. She contacted this student and talked calmly to him and worked things out in a manner that her parents would be proud of. If she didn’t take a stand for her friend, who knows what could have happened. The point is: she acted bravely and stood up to a bully, not by bullying him, but by communicating in a calm and productive manner. She overcame her fear of dealing with an unpleasant person in a Christian way. She didn’t attack his character but his undesirable actions. In the end, the bully stopped and left the other student alone. This is Christian Character in action!! Stay tuned for other students displaying their Christian Character where you may least expect it! A big shout out to Julia in Sixth Grade who shared her story with me. Keep up the good work!

Stars- Seth Rogen, Jay Chou, Christoph Waltz, and Cameron Diaz Director- Michael Gondry Category- Action/comedy Originally a radio show Review by: Eddie T and Jake “The Green Hornet” is a movie about Britt Reid, (played by Seth Rogen) who is lazy and a slacker. He is the son of a wealthy newspaper publisher. One day his father was found dead of a supposed bee sting, so Britt must now take over the newspaper. Britt was very lonely |
one day, and met his servant/mechanic, Kato (played by Jay Chou) working on a very nice car. They took it out for a spin and saw people getting mugged in the park. They sprang to action. Kato and Britt then formed a new alliance creating a superhero named the “The Green Hornet.” If you want to find out what happened to them next we would highly recommend watching this movie.

By: Eddie C. and Kayla In order to keep your body healthy you have to keep a healthy diet. This includes getting the right amount of sleep each day. Sleep is very important to keeping your internal organs healthy and being able to concentrate on daily activities. Sleep deprivation is common among many teenagers but should be stopped. Sleep deprivation may cause mood swings. Mood swings affect how well students are able to learn, take tests, and how well he or she
|
will behave. If you don’t get enough sleep you could endanger your immune system. The immune system fights off infections, and if compromised, you will be more likely to get sick. How many hours of sleep do you get? Teenagers should get about 9 hours of sleep a day. If you get the right amount of sleep, be prepared to see improvements in your grades, your mood, and in your health.

Baseball: For the first time ever, St. Joseph’s Regional Elementary School has a baseball team. We interviewed the coach, Kevin Casey, and we asked him some questions. “How do you feel about coaching baseball for St. Joseph’s school?” and he replied saying, “Awesome!!! It’s a great chance to start a program.” We also asked him, “In your opinion, do you think most players are ready for the season?” he replied saying, “No, not at all, not yet. There’s a lot of work to be done.” We asked him if he had any further experience playing baseball and he said, “Yes, but I haven’t coached yet.” Our last question was, “What are the team’s strengths?” and he replied saying, “Speed.” There are multiple players from all of the upper-floor grades, sixth, seventh, and eighth grades. The players on this team are Rocco, Rhett, Eddie, Matthew, Evan, Joey, Kevin, Connor, Ryan, Anthony and Nick. Hopefully, this year will be a great start off year for the team, and next year will be even better!

Softball: How can you forget about this sport?! This sport starts this spring, and has been around for years. Starring Carly, Courtney, Angel, Emily, Stephanie, Catherine, Mary, Devon, Katie, and Natalie- this team will be a blast! The coach this year is Mr. D’Andrea. Registration is still opened, so if you’re interested, please sign up! Hopefully they will have a good season. Basketball: This season just ended with everybody doing their best! The JV girls made it to the playoffs, but sadly, they were eliminated in the first round. They still tried really hard to get there, though. The Varsity A girls also made it to the playoffs but also got out in the first round of the playoffs. The boys for sixth, seventh, and eighth grade just finished a tournament for Our Lady of Hope Elementary School. They worked really hard and won second place. That’s really good!! Congratulations to a great season basketball teams!!!
